Meat People Have Pets Too!

Hey girls and guys we are always talking about things related to the meat industry and that's great. But the other day I was thinking, how many meat people have pets, that helps to provide stress-relief. I'll show you mine, if you show me yours!

Her name is Diesel and she is a 8 year old Boxer. When I am having a really bad day and the stress is building all I have to do is drop into my recliner and even though she weighs 65 pounds she considers herself a lap-dog and jumps up on me and puts her two huge pawns on my shoulders and proceeds to slobber all over my face. If there is anybody out there that has a Boxer you know what I am talking about! "You have never been slimed until your slimed by a Boxer".

Common now people lets here about your "best friend" Any animal can be your best friend!

Oops, the dog beside Diesel is Riley and she is my daughters dog. Riley is a of the "sooner breed". She would sooner chase squirrels than be bothered with stress relief.

I had two great dogs. My ex wife got them though. I wish I still had a picture of them.

I some times think I run a zoo here's the list
11 Sugar Gliders
3 Cats
3 Turtles
4 Dachshund
1 German Shepherd (weighing in at 147lb) and he thinks he's a lap dog.

3 Ginny pigs

2 Rabbits

So you know they are ALL rescues, we do a lot of fostering and rehoming but these guys we had to keep for various reasons. From became to attached to them, couldn't place them else where, physical issues, and one of the dachshunds (named PITA you can figure out what that stands for) would be for behavior issues and bonding problem with those outside of my family.

Hey Frog, that's a great thing you do. I keep looking for a boxer similar to the one I had for 13 years. She was a brindle with normal ears and a cropped tail. I keep looking all over the country to see if I can find one just like her. There are many boxer rescues however, you have t stay within the State you live in because they all have adoption rules. Maybe someday I will meet her again across the Rainbow Bridge!

One thing I can tell you. Is that none of my dogs ate fake chew bones. When you are a meat cutter you have the opportunity to bring home the original treats. Real beef bones not the ones that come from "dead stock" Many people don't realize that when they spend $10 for a femur bone. All that stuff comes from dead stock, downer-cattle that did not get inspected and passed by USDA. Of course most of that stuff comes from dairy cows that that don't make it to the kill-floor. They either die on the truck or are condemned by the government for some reason or another.

Hey Frog, what a great picture and what a beautiful really large Shepard. WoW! What's his name?

Now if we can only get more members to post a picture of their best friends. It will make all our lives a little better.

When will we have "bring your dogs to work days". Can you imagine, bringing your dog to the meat or deli-department!!! I don't think I ever saw any USDA regulations about having your pet in a meat department. Have you? LOL>

WE NEED MORE PICTURES OF MEAT CUTTER'S BEST (4) LEGGED FRIENDS.

(We know there is a good woman/man behind every meat cutter, likewise there must be a good pet behind them too!

"Please share"

I agree with Coalcracker. That is a nice looking German Shepard. I had two of them in my life. They were great dogs.

The two dogs I had when I was married were a Black Lab and a Puggle. I used bring home 6inch long marrow bones for them. Nothing made them happier. They would take those bones to a corner in the house and chew on them for hours.

His name is Rez short for resurrection. When he came to us his back leg was broken in three places, ingrown collar, and weighing only 37lb. His back leg will most likely have to be taken off when he gets older. The collar was a chain "puppy" collar. The scar tissue makes look like he has a mane now. The saddest part for me is he's the gentlest guy you'll ever meet. Someone spent a lot of money to get him and to treat him the way they did. GRRRRR... ok I'll admit it you don't want to get me started on those a-holes that can do some of things I have seen.

That is very sad. I for one really appreciate what you are doing.  Thankfully Rez now has a loving environment to live in.

I like that name. People that treat animals badly have no regards for life in general. They don't realize that dog spelled backward is God. They may not be God but they are guarding angels. I have a story about a cat I owned that will send chills up your spine. I won't bore everybody on this site with it but if you want to hear it just private message me. Cats are amazing. I hated cats much of my adult life until what this cat did for us.

Being a butcher (meat-cutter) for 40 years, I never met a stray dog that didn't like me or me them. They can smell the meat on cutters and just think we are cool, LOL>

I will leave you this little poem called the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks bikeshooter, sorry for your loss. She sure was a beautiful and powerful looking girl when she was young. Thanks so much for sharing your friend with us. There is no doubt that some day you will be reunited with her when you cross the  Rainbow Bridge.

Thanks Phil. She was over 16 when we had to put her to sleep.
