Share Your Turkey Season Experiences In Your Store

There is an old slang saying we used to use during turkey season (Thanksgiving/Christmas) back in the day. "Cluster Buck", (wink). Yes, it could be sheer pandemonium for many meat departments. " Now that  I am old and headed for the "bone-can, I sure would like to hear some "current experiences" as to what took place in your store this 2016 Turkey Season.

NOW THAT ITS OVER, PLEASE SHARE YOUR "TURKEY PANDAMONIUM STORIES" WITH US  OLD TIMERS.

THANKS

Actually, this was one of the "easiest" I have had long time. I talked my SD into renting a refer trailer to store turkeys in. We are a small store doing almost twice the business we were "designed" for. In years past frozen foods, bakery, deli and meat would have to some how fit everything in a freezer that barely fit our normal loads. Which made a Cluster Buck.

my biggest challenge was to keep the fresh meat cuts filled and good looking but not mark or throw away anything, not possible when they aren't buying anything.

I sure wish we had a reefer truck... we had to store 3 or 4 pallets of turkeys in my cooler every other day. Kept having to rotate them back into the freezer after grocery and bakery got their pallets worked. Biggest waste of time for turkeys we gave away free or very cheap. Ended up having 4 extra pallets of turkeys left over. Kind of surprised with all the turkeys I went through and lost money on, that I ended up with a 30% gross lol
