What are the best bulbs to have in meat case? Ive seen enough meat cases to know our lights suck! Meat color looks dull after very short time. Even when meat is just cut it looks way better in meat room lighting than in meat case. Thanks!
GOOD POST, mimeatguy, I had a post on the old site about this and one I didn't get to bring over to this site. glad you posted this, I had forgot about this problem in meat case.
THIS IS FROM A SITE CALLED,
PROMOLUX LIGHTING INTERNATIONAL
Supermarket Fresh Meat Display Case Lighting
Radiation from supermarket fluorescent lighting impacts meat in several ways, changing its color, smell, flavor, rate of decomposition, and marketability. The popularity of organic food means that meats are now on display with fewer preservatives, making them even more sensitive to the effects of light than in recent years and leading to shorter shelf life and faster decomposition, yet customers are more likely than ever to select meat based on its color and freshness. In fact, many studies have shown that color is the primary means by which consumers judge meat juiciness, tenderness, and flavor.
Fresh Meat Displays
Regular supermarket meat display case lighting shortens the brief period when meat is blooming, turning it brown prematurely; increases the rate of bacterial growth; and distorts the meat’s natural color.
Promolux Safe Spectrum balanced full spectrum lamps emit lower levels of heat and ultraviolet radiation than regular supermarket fluorescent lamps, thus reducing the rate of meat decomposition.
winn-dixie put some type of lights like these in a store I was at, may be the same but not sure of the name. you could really tell the differs in the meat plus we did have less pull backs after we got them in. I think they said they cost 50.00 a piece but I think it was worth it.
Has anyone here ever seen red fluorescent lights in a meat case? Supposedly makes the meat look more red, but it's so phoney, I don't know why they even tried it. I saw it at El Castillo Market (closed now) in Morgan Hill Ca. in 1979.
butcher29 if you would stop using those 100 watt spot lights you wouldn't have that problem LOLOLOL
lol my meat case is old and crappy......theres thing that look like light sockets the meat plugs in to and if you stack the meat to high in the back they shut on and off..lol......we use the 100 watts in the ready meals section gotta keep the food warm
