We have to wear ties where I work. I always thought that was kind of phony in a Holden Caulfield (Catcher In The Rye) sort of way, especially before I started working there. It's one reason I never really wanted to work where I do. But, it turns out it's a very good place to work. If the tie is the worst thing about my job, then I have it pretty good. I'm just glad we don't wear bow ties. That would really suck. I kind of like the ties since we can wear any tie we want. I have some meat ties with steaks or cattle on them and sometimes I like to wear tennis ties, or Miami Dolphins. Whatever you like as long as it's a tie.
All the meatcutters where I work have to wear them too, For some reason our store lets you wear the green uniform shirt... But since Im a lady I dont have to wear one anyway. :) I get out of that one.
does that tie get into the meat alot when you leaning over? or do you pin it to your shirt?
I got no problem with ties but i always considered meat cutting a blue collar job and associated ties with white collar jobs. but for meat cutting its old fashioned thing for butchers and cutters to wear ties and some companies like to keep that old fashioned standard of professionalism so i can respect that. that usually look good with the white coats too but don't let anyone confuse y ou for a doctor.

I wore a black tie for over 30 years, was part of the dress code. in fact I liked it better when all meat men had to have black pants, white shirt with tie and black shoes. I hate seeing a meat cutter wear the new tennis shoes, no matter what there name brand are.
i like to dress professionally too sawman. short of the tie...i like to wear nice shirts and nice pants shirt tucked in with a belt whether i need it or not. I wear black tennis shoes because i got to be on my feet all day and dress shoes would hurt but i make sure they are black and look professional. I really don't like seeing cutters in baggy pants or untucked shirts. just my opinion. i know some stores are easy on the dress codes just wear what you are comfortable in but for me i am comfortable trying to dress professional instead of jeans and tshirts where everyone looks like they are janitors working in the meat dept.
Thanks for all the kind words. I was able to see my video today using a newer computer at our local Library. ( faster speed than what I have) Ok, about the tie, I wear both long ties and BOW TIES. The reason I wear the bows are out of respect for my Dad. He wore them for 20 yrs at his job. He passed on and I got them along with some of his long ties. Love wearing them. We do work hard on keeping the cases looking good . My meat room, I would like to update a few things, but thats down the road. My dress code back there is nothing fancy. Jeans, good work shoes. white shirt/ tie and a hat. I like to be comfortable. I did check out some of the other videos today as well. Great looking meat depts, with experienced meatcutters. If anyone happens to pass down this part of Southern Ind, Stop in at Santa Claus and visit with me. Love to chat with other cutters .
