“Questioning the Safety of Ammonia-Treated Ground Beef

A small piece of this story, I found it interesting and wonder my self about the safey of our children in schools

BPI maintains that its beef products are safe and its ammonia process effective. But…

Within the U.S.D.A., the treated beef has been a source of friction for years. The department accepted the company’s own study as evidence that the treatment was effective. School lunch officials, who had some doubts about its effectiveness, required that Beef Products meat be tested, as they do all beef used by the program.

School lunch officials said that in some years Beef Products testing results were worse than many of the program’s two dozen other suppliers, which use traditional meat processing methods. From 2005 to 2009, Beef Products had a rate of 36 positive results for salmonella per 1,000 tests, compared to a rate of nine positive results per 1,000 tests for the other suppliers, according to statistics from the program. Beef Products said its testing regime was more likely to detect contamination.

RE: “Questioning the Safety of Ammonia-Treated Ground Beef

Do you ever recall having serious outbreaks of E.Coli PRIOR to the advent of the major corporation packing houses? It's only with the increased and rapid processing in a completely sterilized environment of the major packing corporation grainlots and slaughterhouses that E.Coli has flourished. It's sad.

cows aren't meant to eat corn, their bodies cannot handle it, it makes up a deadly form of e.coli because of it. It is one thing to finish a cow on a little corn, oats and barley, but 99% corn diet is deadly to immune compromised people and children. If you don't believe me get on netflix and watch Food.Inc. than watch the future of food, than Food Matters. The Beef industry tried to take Oprah out of business because she spoke about it, remember that, they spanked her hard, gave her the big, well shut you up watch this, and boy did they! It's funny because if you go to any of the big packer's websites it says, corn fed finished on grass, i wonder if they gave the cow a handful of grass on the way through the feedlot, better than feeding them talo to keep them from starving, while they waited for slaughter, thank god they outlawed that practice (supposedly).
