The end of rotting meat?

The end of rotting meat?

Scientists believe they have discovered a natural preservative which could spell the end of rotting food

Boffins from Minnesota University claim they have pinpointed the substance which destroys the bacteria that make meat, fish, eggs and dairy products decompose.

The preservative, called bisin, could extend the food’s life for several years – and even work for opened bottles of wine and salad dressing.

Bisin occurs naturally in some types of harmless bacteria and helps prevents the growth of bacteria including E.coli, salmonella and listeria. The substance could extend the life of a variety of everyday foods which have strict use-by dates including seafood, cheese and canned goods.

Last month, food and drink wholesaler Booker revealed it would start  supplying sandwiches with a shelf-life of two weeks to convenience stores and corner shops.

The sandwich, the firm says, is designed to minimise wastage by retailers.

Wonder if it will preserve us if we eat them... Less embalming fluid will need to be used. :)

I know what a vegan is, I live in a Big Ten college town. You can't throw a dead raccoon 4 feet with out hitting a vegan. I just refuse to recognize them as legitimate humans. If you don't eat meat, you ain't right. The second animals draft a declaration of independence THEN I MIGHT consider not eating them. But for now: "Meat's meat and man's gotta eat!".

I guess next they will just do away with cold cases too and just start putting the meat on a shelf
next to the steak sauce!

I spent some time in the Ukraine and they didn't have ref. cases in the stores because they don't have enough electricty since the 80's when they had the Chernoble reactor explosion. Every thing is smoked or dried, cured or fresh from the farm , all milk is shelf stable in the stores and fresh milk is delivered in a tanker truck like a gasoline truck here. and ppl come out in the street with their jars and milk is pumped straight from the farm . We have it made and don't realize it.
