Hi, I'm Matt Neufeld a meatcutter from Northern Alberta, Canada with 3 1/2 years experience and I had a problem today with my bandsaw.

Question: Hobart Bandsaw

It's a Hobart model, so when it's turned on the saw blade that sits on the top wheel the blade starts moving forward and is rubbing against the wheel causing damage to the saw blade and making the band saw totally inoperable.
I opened up the back of the top and there isn't any adjustment screw that I can see because I was thinking if the wheel was pushed out a little more it would keep the blade tight and solve the issue.

So my question is, how can I fix this? does anyone know, any advice is greatly appreciated.

try to post a pic or at least some numbers to compare, they have a few different adjustments, I would check the bearings first. If the wheel has abnormal movement side to side then I suspect the bearings.

Hi Matt, just saw your message, I had the same problem with my Hobart just a few months back, the blade would move over and cut the rim off the top wheeel. they took off the housings on the left side of the top, they move the shaft into the housing a little, tighten it back down and I've had no problem with it since.

ALSO LOOK AT THE WHEEL. WHERE THE BLADE GOES OVER THE WHEEL, THE MIDDLE WHERE THE BLADE RIDES, SHOULD BE RAISED. I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHEEL ON MINE, BECAUSE THE CENTER WAS WORE DOWN AND IT LET THE BLADE TOUCH THE OUTSIDE OF THE WHEEL, AND THEREFORE DULLING THE BLADE

Thanks for all your help guys, yes the saw is now fixed.
It was the bearing on the top wheel.
There is a seal in the top wheel of the band saw that if water gets in it will cause problems as well. Recommending that you take the wheels off every night for a thorough cleaning.

good thing to get it fixed,otherwise it starts snapping blades.got our bearings changed and it hasn't happened since.
