I work full time at one market and 10-20 days per year at many other markets on my days off. In addition to working at different places, I shop at other markets too, so I happen to know what some markets have and what they don't have. This week working another market on my day off, a customer asked if we sell slab bacon. They don't sell it. I know where he can get it. At the place where I work full time. I told him the name and location of the store and that we sell smoked slab bacon both with and without rind and also fresh (not smoked) side meat skin on. Part of me feels like I'm doing something wrong. I'm there to work, not to send customers away. My only goal is to help the customer find what he/she wants. I gain nothing from sending a customer from one store to another. It works both ways. The market where I work full time does not sell smoked turkey parts. Lots of smoked pork shanks, but no turkey. Some people want smoked meat to season greens/beans, but don't want pork. I have told two customers to go to the other store (the one that doesn't have slab bacon). I don't ever say "this meat sucks, don't shop here". That for sure would be wrong. What I do is help them find something the store doesn't carry. It's not something I do a lot. Only a few times. I don't look for chances to do it. If the situation comes up, and if I feel like it, I'll help them. Do you think it's wrong to do that?
In the old days meat cutters work part time at other stores, differ companies, myself being one of those cutters. around the middle 70's most companies put a stop to this, they were afraid the part time cutter from another store would send their customers to their store. myself I send customers to where they can find what they want, I have found I help them and as far as I know I never have loss one to where I sent them. Larry I guess it would depend on how the company you work part time looks at it, may want to check on that.

HAVE A GREAT 4th LARRY !!!
It's not something I'd ask permission/approval about at my company. I just wanted to know the personal opinion of people here. Is it totally wrong, or OK in some cases. As a customer in any business, I appreciate being told where else I can find something when they don't have it.
