i like the fact i get paid for what i do..i truly love cutting..went from just a job to a hobbie that if i wasnt doing it i would do it for free..
what i hate most about it is customers that are C*%#t's..lol........for every few bitchy ones u get one thats awsome and make you wanna keep doing what you do
I like cutting and taking pride in my work and trying to build business, so I love the fact that the days never drag. I don't like the cold or store managers who don't have a clue about what it takes to keep a nice looking meat dept!
I like interacting with the customers. Getting to know them. Taking pride in my meatcase. What I don't care for is some of the customers that pick through the packages, mess them up and don't put them back. I had a customer that had a couple lg turkeys ordered that had to be baked and boned out for the weekend. Calls me up this morning and needs them a day early. Gave me 4hrs to do this. No wonder I'm turning gray.
I have to agree with you guys...I take pride in the products I produce..I LOVE the fact that I can take a side of beef..break it down into primals and then into cuts..Not a few minutes ago it was this massive animal now ive broke it..bones it..trimmed it...tied it..wrapped n labeled it ect..What I dislike lol...People with NO CLUE and not havind the ability to inform them...Buyin a side of beef and wanting 2 1/2 lb roasts?! Let me get this right...You want me to take your 20 lb chuck and make umteen 2 1/2 lb (an my fave part *no bigger*) roasts?! And you want only the better stks yet you want to grind the sirloin butt?! say whaaaaaaaaat? lol We get the customer order cards that are taken from the office...We don't interact with the customers at all (something I never understood) Let somone who knows nothing about meat take and advise on meat orders...OKAY GOTCHA?! lol But you shake your head n laugh n follow instruction and I've been doin this for a few years and after each animal I am still in a lil awe...
I love the fact I'm good at it! I love setting cases, resetting cases, dealing with customers, GETTING SAMPLES, eating the samples, showing the newbies how to do it, the smell of the smoker, corning the beef, developing new and innovative recipes, getting prime grade beef, the feel of the fat when it's perfect for trimming, making my margin, talking/joking with the boys (there ain't nobody better to talk with than a meat cutter!), flirtin' with the ladies, inventory (YES I SAID IT: INVENTORY), getting fresh grind out every morning...jeez...this could go on awhile! LOL!
Dislikes: The freezer. When my employees aren't happy. When cases go down. Cross contamination. Sick calls. Wrong pricing on invoices. Compromised product.
