Plastic cap went down bathroom drain

About a week ago my kid tells me a shampoo cap went down the bathroom drain. Low and behold the drain is stopped up now and can take hours for water to get out.

Home is older and most of the plumbing is copper pipes.

Had a plumber come out and say they would have to cut and remove the pipe and then replace it which would cost over $700. We have a basement and it’s in a crawl space.

Tried a snake and snake gets jammed about 8-10 inches down presumably by the plastic cap.

Any other options other than paying the plumber to cut and replace? Is there any drain cleaner I could use that would melt plastic without damaging pipe?

Can you heat the end of a snake so it sticks to the plastic? I'm not a plumber.

Maybe you could try to get that shampoo cap out with a long wire? My neighbor used to clean his bathroom drain with a long spiked wire because his two teenage daughters never cleaned the drain of loose hair. Perhaps a method like this would help you. Also, you know all the pipes in your drain are copper. So you can pour a solution down the drain that dissolves or melts the plastic. Then the problem will be gone forever. If such manipulation doesn't suit you, just call sewer backup drain cleaning. I'm sure that professional drain cleaners have many useful techniques for cleaning plastic fragments in the drain.
